Founded by volunteers for volunteers as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit, Denali Rescue Volunteers (DRV) provides material and financial support to Volunteers in Parks (VIPs) within Denali National Park.

OUR MISSION

Supporting Denali Mountaineering Volunteers

Denali Rescue Volunteers exists to support and equip volunteer rescuers who serve on Denali, ensuring they have the training, resources, and community backing needed to save lives in extreme alpine conditions. We are committed to promoting safety, honoring service, and protecting the mountain environment through collaboration, education, and sustainable support.

Denali Dispatches

Denali National Park's mountaineering blog contains periodic feature stories on life in the Alaska Range, as well as almost-daily Field Reports containing mountain statistics for Mount McKinley and Mount Foraker, weather observations, and route conditions on Mount McKinley and other climbing areas of the Alaska Range.

Annual Mountaineering Summaries

Since 1979, mountaineering rangers in Talkeetna have written reports of that year's mountaineering season.

Our Journey So Far

1970s

VIP PATROLS BEGIN

Volunteer mountaineering patrols—known as VIPs (Volunteers in Parks)—have been part of Denali’s mountaineering program since the 1970s.

2009

SHERPA EXCHANGE PROGRAM LAUNCHED

DRV partnered with Denali National Park and the Khumbu Climbing Center in Nepal to bring Nepali climbing instructors to Alaska to train alongside Denali Mountaineering patrols

Board Members

The DRV board is made of past volunteers who have worked in and around Denali National Park as medical professionals and rescue personnel.
